"A must-read for both the veteran activist and the person who wants to get involved but isn’t quite
sure how to get started. It ranks with the best guides to animal advocacy that have ever been
written."
Norm Phelps, author of The Longest Struggle: Animal Advocacy from Pythagoras to PETA

About the author                     Advice from the Vegan Freaks: Bob & Jenna Torres

Mark Hawthorne gave up eating meat after an encounter with one of India’s many cows in 1992, then went vegan a decade later upon visiting Animal Place, an education center and sanctuary for farmed animals near his home in northern California. Beginning in 2004, Mark served as a contributing writer for Satya until the magazine ceased publication in 2007, and he is a frequent contributor to VegNews. His writing has also appeared in Vegan Voice, Herbivore, Hinduism Today, Utne.com and newspapers across the U.S. Mark shares his vegetable crisper with five rabbits rescued by SaveABunny, which works with San Francisco Bay Area animal shelters to find loving homes for rabbits.  Much of Mark's writing can be viewed on firstprecept.com. He is currently working on his second book.
